Project Title:
Bioenergy for landscapes and livelihoods: Assessing the welfare impacts of bamboo and agro waste gasification in Rayalaseema, India
Abstract:
This research evaluates a dual-feedstock biomass gasification model in the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh to create a reliable, year-round supply of locally produced cooking fuel from bamboo and agricultural residues. The project examines how syngas production and related byproducts, including biochar and digestate, can reduce dependence on fuelwood and costly LPG cylinders while improving soil fertility and moisture retention in drought-prone landscapes. Working with communities in Proddatur, Malepadu and Illuru, the research aims to link clean cooking energy with regenerative agriculture to improve household health, strengthen rural livelihoods and support land restoration.
