Abstract: 

This research project will examine the varying mandates of the state in governing fragmented forest landscapes in Karnataka, India, and how these governance regimes influence forest dependent communities’ access to land and resource rights. The project will carry out ethnographic and archival fieldwork among the Hakki Pikki community and key government departments involved in governing fragmented forests in Karnataka.
