Abstract:

In the wake of dwindling forest resources, the Ghanian government through the Ministry of Environment and Science, adopted Ghana Forest Plantation Strategy with the sole objective to achieve sustainable supply of planted forest goods and services through the establishment and management of 625,000 ha of forest plantations in 2016-2040.

My project will compare the natural regeneration under teak plantation (an exotic tree species in Ghana) to the native tree Terminalia ivorensis. The project will help assess the impact of plantation on the regeneration of native species, assess if plantations promote a more diverse and resilient ecosystem, and give insight to the potential invasiveness of the exotic species to native biodiversity.
