Project Title:
Greenhouse gas fluxes from inland aquatic ecosystems across scales: Measuring methane emissions from aquaculture ponds and hydropower reservoirs in Nepal
Abstract:
This project measures greenhouse gas fluxes from aquaculture ponds in the Terai region and mid-hill valleys of Nepal to examine how emissions vary across water quality and trophic state gradients during the monsoon season. The study also compares emissions from aquaculture ponds with those from Kulekhani Reservoir, Nepal’s only storage-type hydropower reservoir, enabling seasonal comparisons across aquatic systems. Together with additional aquatic greenhouse gas data collected in Nepal, the research aims to improve understanding of aquatic emissions and contribute to Nepal’s national carbon budget.
