I plan to study how various household cooking behaviors and housing characteristics impact indoor air pollution in Ghana. My research will contribute to the limited body of literature addressing indoor air pollution due to biomass fuel burning in Sub-Saharan Africa. The aim of my study is to investigate the magnitude of kitchen and living area air pollutant concentrations, fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2), in households within the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area of Ghana. I will assess how indoor air quality changes with various cooking environments by conducting an indoor air quality measurement campaign within Accra homes. My study will add to the limited body of research addressing residential-level indoor exposures to air pollution by the direct sampling of indoor air in Ghana.
