Abstract:

Hawaiʻi's Commission on Water Resource Management is the regulatory agency responsible for implementing and enforcing the State Water Code. My plan is to improve the Commission's incorporation of public trust water uses (particularly ecosystem and native Hawaiian water rights) and climate change into their statewide planning frameworks. I will also assist the Commission with their public outreach efforts, including attending community meetings, join the Commission staff on field site visits, and spend three days with a community-based organization on Kauaʻi learning about their rural community's environmental justice concerns.
