Abstract:

This project aims to better understand the impact of buffer-zone land use practices on water quality. In this project, I will study two protected areas—Gishwati National Park in Rwanda and Parque Internacional La Amistad in Panama—and their buffer zones. Using quantitative and qualitative data collected in the two protected areas as reference values, I will examine how land use practices within protected area buffer zones affect water quality, water quality perceptions, and water use.
