This research project aims to assess mammalian carnivore richness along a management gradient in La Reserva de la Biosfera El Triunfo located in Chiapas, Mexico. This will be done through a 4-month field season. Camera traps will be placed along a management gradient. After data collection is complete and field season ends, camera trap data will be manually sorted and analyses will be done to see whether there are correlations between management level and mammalian carnivore richness. Ultimately, this project will contribute to 1) updates to the mammalian carnivore inventory in the region, 2) will provide a measure of protected area effectiveness for the region through the mammalian carnivore richness assessment, and 3) will shed light on the presence of mammalian carnivore communities in multi-use, human-inhabited PAs.
