Abstract:

Conservationists are concerned about the ecological impacts of the hunting activities carried out by the indigenous people inhabiting the Amazon rain forest protected areas. This concern is centered around the persistence of large vertebrates and their role as seed dispersers upon which much tropical forest diversity depends. This research project aims to understand to what extent indigenous population growth is impacting primates' abundance and diversity and their own hunting returns in Manu National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Peruvian Amazon.
