Industrial symbiosis is a vibrant concept in industrial ecology that essentially includes the utilization of waste/byproducts of one company as the resource/raw materials for another company in an industrial cluster/zone/park. It has huge potential for boosting circular economy models, saving money, and reducing environmental impacts.
My research is focused on identifying and measuring the potential benefits (economic and environmental) of industrial symbiosis in four diversified industrial clusters from India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Pakistan (one in each country). Since these countries mostly consider industrial expansions with the highest priority, if industrial symbiosis is implemented inside the industrial areas, it would be enormously rewarding for the manufacturing companies as well as attractive for investors with sustainability preferences.
