Social Science Panel,
Thursday, February 26 from 12-1 pm

Students will discuss qualitative methods in practice, building and maintaining community relationships, navigating cultural contexts, working with human participants, and the ethical complexities of social research in the field. Some areas of discussion are:

Timeline and planning (realistic expectations, dealing with delays)

Budgets and logistics (funding, resources, equipment)

Interdisciplinary work (learning new fields, bridging methodologies)

Logistics and Expense Management Session

This is an Admin-led session on identifying and applying for funding sources, creating realistic and comprehensive budgets, understanding university reimbursement processes and requirements, managing finances while abroad, and planning for unexpected expenses that inevitably arise in field settings.
IRB and Ethics
Tuesday, March 31 from 12-1:30 pm

A student-led panel where graduate students and postdocs share real experiences navigating IRB approval and ethical considerations for field-based research. Panelists will discuss the application process, what they wish they'd known before submitting, and how to handle ethical dilemmas that emerge during fieldwork.
