Abstract:
Kevin will be trying to understand and quantify the financial and institutional barriers to energy access in Sub-Saharan Africa using statistical models, a Sankey flow of financing, and case studies of Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, and Nigeria. The research should yield insight into what is preventing Sub-Saharan Africa from reaching a level of energy access similar to other developing regions. The goal of the research is to provide decision makers with an understanding of how and to what extent financial and institutional issues are impeding their development efforts. Armed with this knowledge, they will be better positioned to address the identified barriers and achieve better outcomes.
