Abstract:
The Upper Ewaso Ng'iro Basin in central Kenya spans the highlands of Mt. Kenya and the desert to the north, and with varied elevation comes vast differences in available water resources and livelihood. The region is also a critical one for wildlife conservation, specifically in the more arid downstream section of the basin. My research aims to quantify demands from different sectors across the basin in order to identify strategies for better management and water use reduction. Further, I look at how reduced flow in Ewaso Ng'iro and changing availability and location of other surface water resources affects wildlife distribution.
