Sonia Wang
Sonia's project aims to (i) determine whether propagating thermal resilient coral species in advance is beneficial to coral restoration efforts, (ii) compare actual coral survivorship against ArcGIS-modeled sites of suitability, and (iii) develop an outreach plan to help Malama Maunalua bring in community involvement to assist with further monitoring efforts after her departure.
The research will address the following questions:
1. Which sites selected for the climate-resilient coral reef restoration in Maunalua Bay have the highest
overall initial restoration success?
2. Which species of the selected corals of opportunity have the highest average survival rate, by site, and overall within the Bay?
3. What specific site characteristics lead to higher coral survival rate?
