Abstract:
Vivian's research looks at migrant workers’ experiences of rural electrification in peri-urban Beijing. Migrant workers as marginalized peoples at the geographical margins of a centralized and centralizing state power occupy a unique intersection to understand inequalities in energy access and use. She uses ethnography and qualitative analysis to look at cooking and heating practices of migrant households in Jinzhan West Village located in northwestern Beijing.
