Abstract:

This research project is an extension of previous fieldwork completed in the summer of 2024. As I will be continuing at YSE in the fall as a PhD student, this study will allow for the development of the first chapter of my dissertation. This research aims to understand differences in tree canopy temperatures in a fragmented landscape in the southeastern Amazon using high-resolution thermal drone imagery. Differences will be studied along an edge-to-interior gradient, as well as between and within species, to help expand current understanding of forest edge dynamics and the role of evapotranspiration in forest water cycling at the species level.
