Abstract:

African Diasporic agricultural practices on the East Coast of the United States may underscore a holistic approach to land management that prioritizes ecosystem health alongside human needs. Traditional ecological knowledge techniques, such as diverse cropping systems and the use of drought-resistant grains, have improved resilience to climate stress. The rise of regenerative agriculture highlights the relevance of these practices, particularly for marginalized communities. Our research investigates how African Diasporic ecological knowledge, as applied to agrarian techniques, affects soil health and crop nutrition as an alternative to monocropping in culturally decentered agricultural systems used by small-scale growers.
