My research project investigates greenhouse gas fluxes in the mangrove forests found in the Everglades National Park, FL. Using a greenhouse gas analyzer, we sample carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4) fluxes in real time from tree stems, roots, and soil. Our field sites consist of a multiple living/intact and dead/disturbed mangrove forests so that we can compare the changes in and levels of methane concentration within this gradient. I will also be looking to see if there are any trends between these gas fluxes and porewater salinity in this tidal ecosystem.
This project is part of the larger BlueFlux collaborative research study in collaboration with NASA - Goddard Earth Sciences, East Carolina University, and Florida International University.
