Abstract:
The primary aim of this project is to assess the effect of displacement on the association between landslides and mental health outcomes in Banjarnegara, Indonesia. In order to answer this question, I have designed a mixed-methods study that includes two phases and employs an exploratory sequential design. This grant application is to support the second, quantitative phase of this study. I will use a questionnaire to assess demographic characteristics, mental health (using validated measures: PHQ-9, GAD-7, and PTSD-8), and wellbeing (a novel survey measure informed by qualitative interviews with participants, conducted in Phase 1). The study population is comprised of individuals in Banjarnegara, Indonesia, who have experienced landslides over the last 5 years. I will compare mental health outcomes of those “exposed” to displacement and those “unexposed” to displacement to answer my research question.
