Abstract:
This project will investigate how standing herbivory, the condition of feeding on plants, is affected by plant sex in dioecious species in Yasuní National Park in eastern, Amazonian Ecuador. Field work included taking leaf samples from Iryanthera hostmanii and Cecropia species, categorizing the leaves into quantitative categories of herbivory ( 0%, 0–5%, 5–25%, 25–50%, 50–75%, and 75–100%), and subsequently analyzing which variables (among sex, habitat, light, size, and growth rate) exert the strongest effects on herbivory.
